    Summary

    The Social Worker will work with THUMBS UP staff, volunteers and community members to provide mental health support to the staff, volunteers, youth, and any individual seeking support from the organization. The primary role of the Social Worker is to serve as the point person for those seeking mental health resources/support and provide a brief strengths/needs/resources assessment and provide appropriate  recommendations/referrals/safety planning as needed based on the assessment. 

     

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    This list of duties and responsibilities is not all-inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities as management may deem necessary from time to time.

     

    Conduct brief strengths/needs/resources assessment and provide appropriate  recommendations/referrals/safety planning as needed based on the assessment. 

    1. In-person/telehealth/phone call assessments.
    2. HIPAA compliant documentation.
    3. Must be aware of local resources and able to collaborate with local agencies.
    4. Strong ability to build rapport with a diverse population. 

     

    Provides support to THUMBS UP staff/volunteers.

    1. Provides staff/volunteers with debriefing/support as needed.
    2. Supports staff/volunteer training regarding mental health/social-emotional topics.

     

    Facilitates conversations/meetings with families/individuals as needed in response to mental health/social-emotional needs of individuals as they arise in any program/event hosted by THUMBS UP.

     

    Collaborate with local agencies/community members.

    1. Build rapport with local agencies to understand the available resources to aid in facilitating appropriate resource referrals. 
    2. Facilitate/support local events to bring awareness and education regarding mental health and mental health resources.

     

    1. Supports THUMBS UP programming, mission, and values.
    2. Attend programming as able/when needed to best support the needs of attendees as well as build awareness of mental health topics/resources.

     

    Qualifications

    • BA/BS in social work, or related field.
    • Experience working and building rapport with a diverse population.
    • Education/training in trauma-informed practice/modalities. 
    • Knowledge of local resources.
    • Knowledge of mental health issues, de-escalation skills, safety planning.
    • Knowledge of and compliance of HIPAA regulations.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, email, data management and general computer usage.
    • Ability to work well independently as well as part of a team.
    • Valid driver’s license and insurance.

    Education and/or Experience

    BA/BS in social work or related field required.

    If licensed, the applicant is responsible for maintaining the license as required by the State of Minnesota licensing board. 

     

    Language Skills

    Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to speak effectively to community members or employees of the organization. Ability to draft referrals/safety plans. 

     

    Mathematical Skills

    Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. 

     

    Reasoning Ability

    Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
