METRONORTH CHAMBER HIRES NEW PRESIDENT
Lori Higgins is the new MetroNorth Chamber of Commerce president, effective May 17. Higgins replaces Executive Director Tom Snell who will retire May 14 after a quarter century with the MetroNorth Chamber. Higgins will be the Chamber’s first president (the old title retires with Snell) and its first female chief executive officer. Higgins has been director of operations for MetroNorth since February 2009.
The MetroNorth Chamber of Commerce was founded in 1968 and has over 650 members throughout the area. The Chamber is the fifth largest in the Twin Cities and is headquartered in Blaine, Minnesota.
Tom Snell announced his retirement last summer, according to Tom Newland, chair of the Chamber’s board of directors.
“After 26 years of enthusiastic service, Tom suggested it was time for new leadership and to explore new opportunities,” said Newland. “Lori brings a fresh, young dynamic to the Chamber. We’re all excited for Lori to take on the new role of president and will provide every tool she needs to communicate our strong and clear business voice throughout Anoka County and surrounding areas.”
The MetroNorth Chamber formed an Executive Director Search Committee in February. The position attracted extraordinary interest with applicants from throughout the region, including many states, according to Jim Kugler, search committee chair.
“There were many outstanding, well-qualified candidates,” said Kugler. “Lori was the clear and convincing consensus finalist after close to nine weeks of intense focus to find ‘the best of the best.’ Lori was our unanimous and well deserved nominee.”
Higgins lives in Blaine with her husband and two daughters. She is a graduate of Coon Rapids High School and Augsburg College. Before joining MetroNorth she worked in marketing for Liberty Check Enterprises and was deputy district director for a Minnesota congressman.
